This program has been carefully designed to develop skills used in the garment industry. Courses focus on technical aspects of apparel manufacturing and design such as ready-to-wear and custom construction techniques, technical specifications, several approaches to production patternmaking, and pattern grading. The program also includes courses in computers, design, color and textiles, alterations, and contemporary tailoring. Five credits of supervised work experience in the industry are required for completion of the program. Career opportunities: Graduates are prepared to enter the garment industry in positions such as assistant designers, product development technicians, stylists, patternmakers, pattern graders, sample makers, technical artists, custom designers, or to work independently.
