HVAC/R Support Technician
Students who are analytical, enjoy customer service and like to work with their hands will do well in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician program. Students will learn to install, maintain, and repair heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems from residential to large-size systems. Students who graduate will have a state electrical trainee license with up to 1,127 hours of field training, OSHA 30, and Universal refrigerant certifications, and employment-ready national certification for all types of heating air conditioning and refrigeration systems. According to the Bureau for Labor Statistics, the median income in 2017 for HVAC/R installers was $47,080. The job outlook for our students is strong, with 100% placement rates last year. This program prepares students for direct entry into the Local 66 apprenticeship. Upon completion, graduates are credited six months towards their apprenticeship. Get started today. Students prepare for certified entry-level employment in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration industry. The technical skills acquired in this program may be applied in areas such as air conditioning, systems controls, energy management systems, heating and ventilation technicians, and sales. For those individuals already in the HVAC/R trade, customized training to upgrade skills is also provided, as well as applicable sustainable construction practices. The program also provides extended learning opportunities for persons previously or currently employed in related professions. Note: Students are required to pass the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute industry competency exam to complete the program: Two examinations to obtain a degree; one exam to obtain a certificate. Sufficient training is provided to qualify students to take the Environmental Protection Agency CFC certification examination required to work in the industry. A total of up to 1,127 hours are applied toward the Washington State O6A electrical certificate.
